I’ve been practicing Aikido for over 11 years now. O’Sensei Morihei Ueshiba, founder of Aikido said, “… it takes a minimum of ten years to master the basics and advance to the first rung.” So, as I sit on the first rung I have begun to have a strong desire to re-examine my understanding of what Aikido really is. Aikido is often loosely translated as Art of Peace, and that is the title of a book put together by John Stevens of sayings and aphorisms by O’Sensei.
I am going to begin a series of commentary on The Art of Peace in the hopes of deepening and strengthening my understanding of what O’Sensei taught. With any luck these posts will come out daily.
