Sangha 2.0

buddhaphone.jpgOne of the things I find most fascinating in this world is the ways in which people relate. The process and exchange, the development and evolution. What also fascinates me is all the things that facilitate relating, namely words and communication. That long-held and examined fascination is what makes me so excited about social networking and the growing form of Web 2.0. The definition is nebulous, but I think the dream is very valid. It is only by relating that we can co-create the social structures that embrace an ever widening circle of humanity and foster an idea of one people, one world. It may not happen in our life times, and the human race may obliterate itself before the dream can be lived out, but I see how possible it is.

We make mistakes, and we make the world we live in together. We can think for ourselves and we can make a world of peace. It is possible.

I was discussing these ideas with a long-time friend and was very happy to discover that his current position is in an industry that is on the edge of web 2.0 and social networking development. Sonopia.com. It’s a service and system of interconnected mobile phone service and messaging. People can form networks from there mobile phones and keep connected in real time. It’s alway odd when technology comes into the realm of what is a spiritual idea, but the truth is that all things need to be embraced in the circle of the dream if it is ever to be realized. Tired thumbs from frantic text messaging included. I started my own sonopia, Dharma Bums Mobile, after the Jack Kerouac book. It’s a small thing so far, but I am happy to be participating in the dream, and (as evidenced by the existence of this blog) no stranger to using technology to facilitate it.
